The Polynesian migration to New Zealand

 c1350

  • Around this time was the peak of Polynesian migration to New Zealand. The Rangitane people (Tanenuiarangi) are the tangata whenua of this region and trace their East Coast origins to the Kurahaupo canoe, and their West Coast origins to the Aotea canoe. Their whakapapa trace their occupancy of the region back to around 700 years before present
