Twelve months and a few days ago I was fortunate enough to be elected as mayor of Palmerston North. I have to say it’s probably been one of the busiest and most challenging years of my life, and also one of the most rewarding.
As Mayor I receive many letters each week. Some are complaints about whatever it is that people believe the Council should or shouldn’t be doing, while others send in bright ideas about how to make our city even better.
Over the past year when asked what my vision for Palmerston North is, I have answered that I want Palmerston North to be the kind of place where my children will want to raise my grandchildren.
This year’s Annual Plan and budget have been decided and the rates have been set. It is now time for the Council to focus its attention onto the day to day business of running the city and look towards the next Long Term 10 year plan.
May is always and exciting month in Palmerston North as we celebrate Massey graduation week.
Salary, saleability and security are three words to attract people to Palmerston North in a time that New Zealand centres face economic uncertainty.
It’s been an amazing summer in the Manawatu, and a great opportunity to get out and enjoy everything the region has to offer.
The elections in October saw a major change in the make-up of the Council. I have been very encouraged with the way the council has set about working constructively to ensure a good outcome for the residents of the city.
